Tour: Randall-Bold Water Treatment Plant (limited to 30)
Time: 3:45 – 5:15 PM
Location: 3760 Neroly Rd, Oakley, CA 94561
Come join BAWWA for a walking tour of Contra Costa Water District’s (CCWD) Randall-Bold Water Treatment Plant (WTP). Built in 1992, the facility uses ozone disinfection technology to produce high-quality drinking water for both retail customers and wholesale partner agencies throughout the region. Expanded in 2007, the plant has a design treatment capacity of 50 million gallons per day (MGD) and can be expanded to 80 MGD to meet future water demands. The facility also includes an on-site underground treated water reservoir with a storage capacity of 5 MGD.
Visitors will have the opportunity to follow water through the treatment process, including source water intake, rapid mix and alum addition, flocculation and sedimentation, ozonation, filtration, post-ozone contact, chemical addition, and distribution. The tour also provides a behind-the-scenes look at the control room showcasing the technology, processes, and expertise required to deliver safe, reliable drinking water every day.
Whether you are interested in learning more about CCWD's water system, are new to the water industry, or are a water treatment professional looking to learn how other facilities operate, this tour offers a unique opportunity to explore modern drinking water treatment in action. General Membership Meeting with Trivia and Auction for Water for People
Following the tour of the Randall-Bold WTP, we will hold a general meeting at Skipolini’s in Oakley for an evening of networking, water treatment trivia, and an auction to raise money for Water for People. Water For People is a nonprofit that works with people in developing countries to improve their access to safe drinking water and sanitation. Around the world, 783 million people do not have access to safe drinking water, and more than 2.5 billion people lack adequate sanitation facilities. Water For People is working to change those statistics. In 2011, Water For People launched its daring “Everyone, Forever” initiative aimed at making real, sustainable change in the communities where the organization works.
BAWWA has been increasingly successful in raising money for WFP in our annual auction, and having a great time while doing it. We hope to continue the trend this year!
